Sheila

A lump on Patch's arm was aspirated today and, although the cells were not sent to a pathologist, the vet is certain it's not a lipoma. There was enough concern to schedule surgery to remove all of the tissue on Monday (two days before his 5th birthday) and send it to the pathologist. Patch is extremely groggy from today's sedatives and has a bandage on his arm around the lump. I know tumors are somewhat common on boxers, so I'm hoping someone can tell me what to expect on Monday.

Andrea

I'll say a prayer for him. Maybe it's just a mass of fat. Let's hope so. Don't know what to expect on Monday, but keep us posted, and try and stay positive.

Hugs,

Andrea (a volunteer)

Hi Sheila, Sorry to hear about Patch and I hope all comes out okay for you and Patch. Hard to believe Patch will be 5 years old. I remember when you first walked him and I knew you would adopt him. Just think positive.
Keep us posted.

My 9 year old Angel has had several operations for lumps and skin tags - all with negative tests for cancer. One - under her front leg - required her wearing a boy's T shirt as a bandage 'cause the lesion was right on the underarm. She came through all quite okay and I'm sure Patch will too. I always say that there's so much love in Boxers that these bumps are just another way for it to come out!!

Patch just got home and is sleeping. We'll get the biopsy results in a few days, but the vet suspects it was a mast cell tumor. The vet warned me that he had to take out quite a big chunk of flesh so I'm ready to see it when the bandage comes off on Wednesday. Poor guy. He probably won't be feeling well for his 5th birthday tomorrow, but hopefully he'll be up and walking on a leash this weekend for his birthday party!

Hi Sheila. My husband and I have been lucky enough to have Boxers in our life for 38 years...they are truly wonderful I'm sorry to hear about Patch, and my thoughts are with you and Patch. one of our Boxers..Goliath..had mass cell tumors. it is a particulary difficult form of disease. I don't think any of us are truly as prepared as we would like to be, I'm sure your Vet has explained the situation to you so I'll go no further, loads of love to patch and you, give him a BIG kiss for me and say happy birthday !

No more Stinkers - awesome dog food eliminates gas forever !

I am sure that every Boxer owner can relate to the common Boxer trait - the fact that they produce teribble gas. When we adopted our sweetheart Whisper (he was transferred from Boxer Rescue LA to Boxer Rescue San Jose) 4 years ago, he truly transformed our house by the end of the day into a sewage plant - and believe me, I am not exaggerating. It was that bad. Changing food brands, using enzymes, and finally put him on drugs did not work - especially the medicine made him even more sick.

We were seriously considering to give Whisper up. But of course that was also no way to go . . . Luckily our wonderful vet recommended what she described as the best dog food available in the US to the best of her knowledge - the kibble from phd pet food (http://www.phdproducts.com) and in about three weeks our Boxer was free of stink ! No more gas except we feed him something besides his phd food - everybody knows how tough it is to resist these eyes . . .

What he also tolerates together with this excellent dog food are turkey necks, raw. You can get them for little money in the freezer at Safeways. Our Whisper is now the perfect dog - as of course all Boxers are - as we know.

I hope that this posting helps many more Boxers and their humans and I am very happy that we found a working, healthy solution !

Best regards
Doro and Whisper Knisper Wiggly Butt

I was needing help on dog food. I rescued our Boxer about a year ago from you. I need to find a good dog food that you guys use. He has been through a few and he haven't really liked them or they gave him gas. Do you guys suggest a food for him? He has soft stool with most of the ones I tried. Thanks
